Sri Lanka Current situation
Sri Lanka situation
The is an ongoing political crisis in Sri Lanka due to the power struggle between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Parliament of Sri Lanka. As a result, there are several candidates vying for the presidency. There are 8 candidates vying for the position of president on November 28 2020 and all of them are seeking votes from the people. All of the presidential candidates except one who has not yet declared their candidature bid. This candidate will announce his candidature by 5 pm (GMT-6) Sunday, Nov 29th.
There are a few factors that will affect this election such as the current economic situation, economy, health care issues, and the environment. A lot of things have changed and it is important for us to do things differently now. It is a good time to think critically about how we can make changes in our country. If this Presidential Election is to happen, then we should act quickly and put a plan in place. We should use some tactics in order to win this election.
The idea of a national identity can be very important as far as this election is concerned. We need our own constitution so that this election does not get unnecessarily complicated. Having a different constitution for each state/country will help in making sure that there is no confusion about what is appropriate to say about politics in certain countries. An example of such a constitution would be the Singaporean constitution. In comparison, ours would be quite simple with no political statements. Instead, we can follow the UK's model of different constitutions for different states/countries.
1. Reforms
The government should be more accountable to its electorate by introducing reforms. Some reform ideas which can be implemented include allowing foreign investments and allowing more foreign tourists to come here. The economy of such a country, even for a small country like Australia, needs to change and in this election, it is important that we are able to make changes here. So, let us start making some changes here. For example, we can reduce tax rates, reduce interest rates and increase healthcare costs.
2. Improve Public Finance
The public finance system needs improvement. Also, there are many taxes in every sector of society in the country like excise duties, land, and other taxes. Most of these taxes go towards paying off debts which is bad. Other taxes pay for services that are vital to the citizens of the country. Therefore, the government should introduce policies and laws that encourage businesses and help the economy grow. By implementing better fiscal strategies, the economy would become more stable.
3. Introducing Social Issues
I think that social issues and community development are very much important in any nation. However, due to our poor governance, there are poverty and low standards of living here. We have to start thinking about social issues and start working on these issues. Currently, most of these issues revolve around corruption, unemployment, and nepotism. These issues can be solved using proper public finance. I think that these issues are essential because they require proper planning in place.
4. Addressing Climate Change
Climate change is happening a lot today especially due to the burning of fossil fuels. People here can't just sit on their lawns or park chairs, they need green spaces in which to relax. Apart from that, climate change is also affecting animals. It is very important that the governments of any nation take steps now to address climate change. With the increase in pollution and negative impacts, it is important to start taking action now for the benefit of the future generation.
5. Creating Communities Within Nations
The creation of communities is important so that we can all have a common goal. Therefore, creating Communities within Nations is important. Many nations have a history of unity and this can help restore unity among people now. In fact, when I was studying at university, I joined two societies. Both of these societies were based within the same University. By joining these organizations, I felt like I belonged to both societies.
6. Developing a Sustainable Economy
Many people do not understand the basics of a sustainable economy. They think that if you get a car and buy it now, it can fix everything. While doing so may be true, many industries have been created on things like paper, plastics, and cement. Each year, millions of tons of plastic waste are produced. When someone wants a car, there are a few suppliers who will sell them from their yards and make sure that cars are delivered. Without properly managing resources, it might create a problem for future generations if nothing is done soon. Not only that, but people might end up having a large amount of disposable income. That is why it is very important to fix the resource economy first before taking into account the human economy.
7. Maintaining Good Governance
Governance is everything in Sri Lanka. This election would mean that all laws will be kept in place as well as people who manage things like this. To maintain good governance means that people can do their jobs without having to bribe anyone. Also, it helps keep peace and control. Our government can improve its performance and performance is also directly proportional to our democracy. With that said, the main objective of the government is to maintain good governance through transparency and accountability.
